Disney Drops Live-Action Rapunzel Cast and Director

Disney is returning to the tower for another take on Tangled, this time with real actors and a fresh creative team.

> At a Glance

> – Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will play Rapunzel and Flynn Rider

> – Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) will direct

> – No release date has been set

> – Why it matters: Disney keeps mining its animated vault for live-action hits, and Tangled‘s $590M success makes it a prime candidate

The 2010 animated original followed a princess with 70 feet of magical hair and a wanted thief on a whirlwind escape. Now, Walt Disney Pictures says the live-action redo is officially in the works, confirming the leads and director in a Wednesday announcement.

The New Cast

Teagan Croft, the Australian actor best known as Raven on DC’s Titans, steps into Rapunzel’s boots. Milo Manheim, who fronted Disney’s Zombies trilogy and placed second on Dancing with the Stars season 27, takes on Flynn Rider.

The pair inherit roles made famous by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, whose voice work helped the cartoon earn:

  • $590 million worldwide
  • A post-cinema short (Tangled Ever After)
  • A Disney Channel series (Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure)

Behind the Camera

Michael Gracey will direct from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Gracey’s feature debut, 2017’s The Greatest Showman, became a global box-office juggernaut and Grammy-winning soundtrack smash.

The project was first whispered about in December 2024. It joins a crowded slate of live-action remakes:
