The actress, who appeared overwhelmed backstage at the Beverly Hills ceremony, told reporters the victory felt like divine confirmation. “I’ve been doing it since I was 15 years old, you know? And what this was for me was God reminded me that the weight is not punishment, it’s preparation for what’s already written,” she said.
Taylor clutched the engraved trophy and admitted she was “still gagging” minutes after leaving the stage. “My name being written on that card and the engraving-this is just mind-blowing,” she added. “I’m filled with so much gratitude. I don’t take any of this for granted. I don’t take any of it at all.”
Emotional Speech Honors Family and Director
During the televised acceptance, Taylor fought back tears while thanking her parents and the tight-knit circle she calls her “tribe.” She described them as “my grounding force” and credited their support for keeping her steady through the highs and lows of a career that spans music, dance, and film.
She reserved special praise for writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, saying, “Thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless. I love you. We love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.”
Taylor closed her remarks with a message aimed at young women of color. “My Brown sisters and little Brown girls watching tonight-our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine,” she declared. “We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
Next Stop: The Actor Awards
The Golden Globe victory could be the first of two major trophies this season. Taylor is nominated in the supporting category at The Actor Awards, formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards, set for March 1.
Reacting to that nomination four days before the Globes, she wrote on Instagram, “This one means everything to the little girl from Harlem with a big dream.”
“I’ve been a SAG member for nearly 20 years, and to receive my first SAG Award nomination this morning is a true full circle moment!” she continued. “I poured my whole heart into this role, and to be seen and recognized by my peers is deeply humbling.”
