While chatting with ET host Nischelle Turner, Brown admitted the Philadelphia Eagles versus San Francisco 49ers game held his attention. “Yeah, it’s 19-17 right now. Eagles are up…with about 17 minutes to go,” he said, noting he’s “transparent” about his football obsession.
Brown, 49, explained his divided focus: “I’m a Chargers fan. So the big game comes on tonight during the show and if the camera cuts to me, it’s going to be a weird look because I’m going to be multitasking.”
Turner reminded him that last year Dax Shepard was caught watching the Detroit Lions on his phone while seated in the audience. Brown laughed: “I’m not the first, I won’t be the last.” His wife, Ryan Michelle Bathé, added, “I don’t even know who’s playing, child!”
Despite the sports distraction, Brown remains proud of his nomination for Paradise, Hulu’s political thriller. “I’m very excited to be here, happy to be recognized for the show,” he said. “I’m the only person from the show [here]…I will hold it down for the Paradise crew.”
The series, which premiered in January 2025, reunites Brown with This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman. Brown plays Xavier Collins, a Secret Service agent and single father who becomes the prime suspect in the assassination of President Cal Bradford, portrayed by James Marsden.
Speaking with News Of Losangeles ahead of the series debut, Brown described the creative challenge: “People ask, ‘What is it like to do that?’ All of it is fun. The funny scenes are fun, the hard scenes are fun…I get to do this thing. People pay me to show up and do this thing, this sort of illumination of the human condition.”
He continued, “Even when it’s painful, I have in the back of my mind that somebody will see what this character is going through and they will recognize it and they will recognize themselves inside of it and they will feel seen…it gives me great joy to help people feel less alone.”
The 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Nikki Glaser, aired January 11 on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
