Freak Tree Fall Kills Cricket Fan

A 91-year-old man died in a freak accident on Jan. 10 after a tree collapsed on him at Gracedale Park in Ringwood East, a Melbourne suburb, while he watched a cricket match with his family.

The Victoria Police statement obtained by News Of Losangeles confirmed the incident was not considered suspicious and that a report will be prepared for the coroner.

According to Knox News, the man had simply stopped at the park to enjoy the match with relatives. His name has not been released.

Fellow spectators and players rushed to help when the tree came down. One of the cricketers attempted CPR before paramedics arrived, but the man could not be revived, 7News reported.

Cricket Victoria, the sport’s governing body in the state, emailed News Of Losangeles to say they are providing support to players and volunteers who witnessed the tragedy.

“Cricket Victoria extends our condolences to the family and friends of the individual who tragically lost his life on Saturday,” the statement read.

Gracedale Park remained open over the weekend, with local cricket fixtures continuing under modified safety protocols while authorities assess the remaining trees.
