Taylor Sheridan has once again brought up The View on Landman. In a December episode of the Paramount+ series, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) suggested that his dad, T.L. (Sam Elliott) tune into the ABC daytime talk show, and in the Jan. 11 episode, T.L. took his advice. The Landman season 2 finale premieres Sunday, Jan. 18 on Paramount+.
At a Glance

- T.L. starts watching The View after Tommy’s earlier recommendation
- He calls the hosts “pretty funny” without trying to be
- Tommy previously mocked the show as “pissed-off millionaires” complaining
- Why it matters: The meta-moment shows Sheridan’s habit of weaving real-world talk shows into his scripted drama
T.L. tells Tommy he might “watch that View later,” catching his son off guard since the older man usually wants to tag along for the day. Tommy is surprised when T.L. admits, “You’re right, they’re pretty funny. I don’t think they’re trying to be funny, but they are.”
The exchange continues Sheridan’s pattern of inserting The View into Landman dialogue. Back in December, Tommy described the show to his father as:
- “A bunch of pissed off millionaires bitching about how much they hate millionaires”
- Targeting “Trump and men and you and me – and everybody else they got a bee up their ass about”
- “Pretty funny” in an uncomfortable way, “like fart in church funny”
At the time, T.L. replied, “That don’t sound funny, either,” yet he ultimately gave the program a try.
Ali Larter, who plays Tommy’s ex-wife Angela, calls Sheridan “a provocateur” who “loves to write characters that make people respond, that initiate a reaction, a feeling.” She told News Of Losangeles ahead of season 2, “What’s incredible about our show, and a lot of the shows that Taylor makes, is that they’re all wildly original and authentic to themselves.”
Larter, 49, credits Sheridan’s unique style for creating “a really exciting” set and adds, “You would never know on paper that [a show about oil] would be so riveting or so many people would love it – different generations of people who live in different places. That they find a connection to it … is super fascinating.”
The Landman season 2 finale streams Sunday, Jan. 18, on Paramount+.
