Jason Segel and Harrison Ford will return for a third season of the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking, with new episodes set to premiere on January 28, 2026, the streamer confirmed.
At a Glance
- Season 3 drops January 28 with an hour-long premiere and ends April 8
- Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox join the cast in guest arcs
- The new season will focus on “moving forward” after grief and forgiveness
- All 11 episodes will release weekly on Apple TV+
The series, created by Segel, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, premiered in January 2023 and earned Emmy attention for its blend of humor and heart. It follows Jimmy (Segel), a grieving therapist who starts meddling in patients’ lives, to the dismay of his boss Paul (Ford) and colleague Gaby (Jessica Williams).
How Season 2 Set the Stage
The sophomore run ended with Jimmy rescuing Louis (Goldstein), the drunk driver who killed his wife, from suicide. Father and daughter reconciled after Alice briefly moved in with Gaby, while Paul-facing a six-to-twelve-month window before his Parkinson’s medication stops working-thanked his friends for support at Thanksgiving.
A potential romance between Jimmy and car-saleswoman Sofi (Cobie Smulders) was left unresolved.
Returning Cast and New Faces
Alongside Segel, Ford and Williams, season 3 will feature Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley. Recurring players Wendie Malick, Devin Kawaoka, Wayans Jr. and Goldstein are also back, with Smulders upgraded to a larger arc.
Daniels will appear as Jimmy’s estranged father, Fox’s first on-camera role since retiring in 2020. Their characters meet in a doctor’s waiting room, trading barbs about Parkinson’s and haircuts.

Lawrence, who modeled Paul’s illness on Fox’s real-life experience, told News Of Losangeles in December 2024 that landing Fox was personal: “Michael J. Fox is my first mentor, so we wanted to represent it in hopefully an inspiring and not sad or tragic way.”
Fox phoned Lawrence after watching the show: “You did a show about Parkinson’s, and you didn’t call me?” The writers crafted a cameo that Fox calls “really good.”
Theme of Season 3: Moving Forward
Lawrence has labeled each season’s focus: year one tackled grief, year two forgiveness, and year three is “about moving forward.”
Segel echoed the mantra to Variety: “I’m allowed to say our words for Season 3 are ‘moving forward.’ So that’s all we really know so far.”
The December 2025 trailer shows Jimmy struggling to open his heart again, Gaby feeling stuck, and Alice navigating college life while Paul bonds with Fox’s character.
Release Schedule and Where to Watch
All 11 episodes will roll out weekly, concluding on April 8, 2026. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Apple TV+.
Lawrence praised the cast and crew in a statement: “I’m so lucky to work on Shrinking with actors, writers and a crew so talented that they all elevate the material. Huge thanks to Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. for the amazing partnership and support. So grateful we get to keep making this show. Onward!”
