Shonda Rhimes made a rare public appearance with her entire family as she attended the January 14 Paris premiere of Bridgerton season 4.
The 56-year-old showrunner walked the red carpet flanked by daughters Harper, 22, Emerson, 12, and Beckett, 11, marking the first time her younger two children have joined her at a public event.
A Family Affair in Paris
Photographs from the evening show Rhimes in a metallic pink dress, standing between her three daughters. Harper opted for a black dress with yellow detailing, while Beckett wore a black floral-print dress and Emerson chose a purple and silver ensemble.
The Netflix event held special significance for the family, as Beckett and Emerson had never before accompanied their mother to a red-carpet function. Harper, however, previously attended the March 2025 Los Angeles premiere of The Residence with Rhimes, where the pair posed arm-in-arm.
Rhimes’ Motherhood Journey
Rhimes built her family through both adoption and surrogacy:

- Harper – adopted in 2002
- Emerson – adopted in 2012
- Beckett – born via surrogacy in 2013
The Grey’s Anatomy creator has spoken candidly about balancing career and parenthood. During an October appearance on Call Her Daddy, she recalled that her eldest daughter “grew up thinking I worked in a hospital” because the Grey’s set was such a constant presence.
Rhimes also revealed that after a decade of parenting Harper alongside her television productions, she deliberately expanded her family. “I thought, okay, so I’ve had one daughter and 37 actors, but she doesn’t have any siblings,” she said. “And so then it was the middle of Scandal, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna have two more kids.’ And that was a plan.”
Next Generation of Viewers
In March 2024, Rhimes shared on Instagram that one of her younger daughters had begun watching Grey’s Anatomy. A photo showed the child eating pasta while streaming an episode on her iPad.
“My not so tiny human started watching @greysabc for the first time yesterday,” Rhimes wrote. “My brain is breaking. 🤯 I am dead. DEAD. But so glad she’s getting to see the women her mom created.”
Why It Matters
The Paris premiere appearance offers fans a glimpse into Rhimes’ life beyond the writers’ room, highlighting how the powerhouse producer navigates motherhood while overseeing multiple hit series.
