Sophie Turner and Kit Harington shed their Stark sibling dynamic for a forbidden romance in the upcoming horror film The Dreadful, set for digital release on February 20.

From Siblings to Star-Crossed Lovers

The new trailer, debuted exclusively by News Of Losangeles on January 15, reveals Turner as Anne, a woman stranded on the fringes of medieval society. Her husband never returns from war, leaving her alone with Morwen-her domineering mother-in-law played by Marcia Gay Harden. Into this tense household rides Kit Harington’s Jago, a battle-weary stranger who quickly becomes both confidant and temptation.

Director Natasha Kermani tells News Of Losangeles the ensemble “embraced the spirit of indie filmmaking,” shooting through “rain, mud and cold winter nights in the English countryside.” She singles out Turner as “the emotional heart of the film” and calls Harington’s performance “outstanding.”

A Curse Among the Ruins

The two-minute teaser hints at supernatural stakes beyond the love triangle:

  • A mysterious knight stalks the forest.
  • Morwen warns that “demons walk the earth in the shape of men.”
  • A throat-slitting ambush suggests Morwen’s crimes escalate from theft to murder.
  • Anne and Jago share several intimate moments-echoing the synopsis that a “curse begins to take shape” and “threatens to destroy them all.”

Awkward On-Set Chemistry

Turner admitted the shift from siblings to lovers felt “really weird.” While promoting the film on Late Night with Seth Meyers last August, she recalled both actors “retching” during their first kissing scene. Harington’s initial response to the offer: “Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really f—ing weird, Soph.”

The actress ultimately lured him with the script’s quality, joking that every other page read “kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex.” Even so, Turner apologized to Game of Thrones fans in a July 2025 Vogue interview, acknowledging the awkwardness of watching the former Stark siblings embrace on-screen.
