A morning school-bus run turned deadly Thursday when the bus and a passenger car crashed head-on on Manhattan Monee Road. The wreck shut down the busy stretch between Schoolhouse and Cedar Roads and sent nearly a dozen people to hospitals.
Crash Details
The Manhattan Fire Protection District said the collision happened at 8:17 a.m. CT. The bus was carrying 10 Manhattan School District students plus the driver.
All on board were evaluated at the scene and transported to nearby hospitals “due to the severity of the accident,” firefighters reported. No major injuries among the children were reported.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Illinois State Police.
