- Why it matters: Local production brings jobs and economic boost to California
Fox’s reboot of the beloved 1990s series was selected last year as one of 17 productions to receive California’s expanded film and tax credit program, ensuring the show will film entirely within the state.
Casting Call Details
The production company announced this week that aspiring actors can apply online for the February 18 audition. Applicants must confirm they are at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States.
While the exact location hasn’t been revealed, the casting call will take place somewhere in the Los Angeles area. The creative team wants applicants to embrace the beach theme – they’re specifically asking people to wear beach attire and “come ‘Baywatch’ ready” to the audition.
The show is casting for various background and featured roles:
- Beachgoers
- Bartenders
- Rescuers
- Additional beach patrol members
According to the production company’s website, some of these positions could evolve into series regular roles or major recurring characters throughout the season.
Production Incentives
California’s film tax credit program helped secure “Baywatch” for in-state filming. The reboot joins 16 other productions benefiting from the state’s expanded incentives designed to keep entertainment industry jobs local.
“Baywatch was born in Los Angeles. I’m so glad we can bring it home again,” said Matt Nix, Baywatch Executive Producer.
Nix began developing the series during the devastating California wildfires that recently swept through Los Angeles. The experience deeply influenced his vision for the show.
“I was inspired by the heroism of the first responders who fought to save our community, and I wanted to be a part of bringing filming back to California and showing the beauty and possibility of this incredible place,” Nix explained.
What Actors Need to Know
The production company welcomes applications from non-Los Angeles residents, though they won’t provide transportation or lodging assistance for auditioning actors. This means out-of-town hopefuls need to arrange and fund their own travel to the audition.
The February casting call represents a significant opportunity for background actors and newcomers to break into television. With the potential for roles to expand into regular appearances, the reboot could serve as a launching pad for emerging talent.

California’s entertainment industry continues to rebound following recent challenges, and local productions like “Baywatch” provide employment opportunities for crew members, supporting businesses, and aspiring performers throughout the region.
