The 46-year-old singer, whose legal name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, appeared on Sherri Wednesday, Jan. 14 and explained the structure to host Sherri Shepherd.
From Divorce to Full Disclosure
Ne-Yo’s marriage ended in August 2022 when Crystal Renay filed, alleging he fathered a child with another woman. The pair share three children: Shaffer Chimere Jr., 9, Roman Alexander-Raj, 6, and Isabella Rose, 4. He also has four children from two previous relationships.
“I own the thing that I did in that marriage to mess it up. I own it completely,” he told Shepherd, adding that the experience pushed him toward radical transparency.
How the Polyamorous Arrangement Started
Ne-Yo said he approached the woman who had been dating him longest among the three and laid out the situation.
“I basically went to her and said, ‘Listen, you know I rock with you. You know I love you, but I have to be honest with you. It’s not just you. I would love for you to meet these other women, and if we can figure out a way to do something together, cool. If not, that’s cool, too,'” he recalled.
All three women-Arielle Hill, Cristina and Moneii-opted to stay.
Daily Dynamics and Holidays
The singer emphasized that group time and individual time carry equal weight.
“We figure out ways to make everything work,” he said, noting that holidays require tailored gestures. “I can’t do blanket stuff like red roses for all of the women, because that doesn’t work for everybody.”
Shepherd remarked that crafting unique gifts for three distinct personalities “seems like more work.”
“I’ve never been afraid of hard work. Never ever,” Ne-Yo responded.
Living the Honesty Pledge
Ne-Yo summarized the guiding principle: “The main understanding is I’m not in three relationships. I’m in one relationship with three people.”

The interview aired weeks after his Jan. 14 taping and was reported by Jonathan P. Miller for News Of Los Angeles.
