Southern California Weather Outlook: Wet Christmas Forecast
As holiday shoppers gather last-minute gifts and families finalize plans with their loved ones next week, a system is quietly forming at the moment and may deliver wet weather to Southern California during the festivities.

‘As we head into our weekend, we’ve got more clouds around here in Southern California,’ she said. ‘There’s a little stream of moisture; This is an atmospheric river that we’re tracking as we head into our next week, and there’s the potential of a storm system moving in, especially as we get into Christmas Eve — that’s Wednesday — into our Thursday.’
The incoming system is hailing from the Pacific Northwest and is expected to make its way down south, prompting meteorologists to keep a close eye on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to Magee.
‘There is a system on the way,’ she said. ‘This is going to be a milder system so it’s mostly rain. Not a whole lot of snow with this because we’re tapping into a bit of an atmospheric river.’
‘So Tuesday into Wednesday — that’s Christmas Eve — into Christmas Day, we’ve got the potential of some showers,’ Magee said. ‘Again, we have to fine-tune the timing and the exact intensity of the moisture that will be on the way as we tap into the atmospheric river for the first time our winter season, which is coming on Sunday.’
