Amtrak Restores 13th Surfliner Trip

Amtrak will restore its 13th daily Pacific Surfliner round trip between Los Angeles and San Diego starting Jan. 26, bringing service to pre-pandemic levels.

At a Glance

  • Pre-pandemic service restored with 13 daily LA-San Diego round trips
  • 20 % discount code V526 valid Jan. 26-March 13
  • Weekend service halt south of L.A. Union Station Jan. 24-25

Why it matters: More flexible departure times for commuters, business travelers, and coastal tourists.

The new trip is funded by a $27.1 million Federal Railroad Administration grant awarded to the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor Agency.

“This added service represents a significant step forward for mobility in Southern California,” said LOSSAN Agency Chair and Fullerton Mayor Fred Jung. “With the 13th roundtrip, riders have more options for commuting, business travel, and leisure trips along our coast.”

Service Schedule

  • Los Angeles ↔ San Diego: 13 daily round trips
  • San Diego ↔ Goleta: 5 daily round trips
  • San Diego ↔ San Luis Obispo: 2 daily round trips

“Adding the 13th round trip between Los Angeles and San Diego marks a significant milestone in fully restoring pre-pandemic service levels,” said LOSSAN Managing Director Jason Jewell. “This additional round trip provides travelers with more options to choose the travel times that work best for them.”

Service Alert

No Pacific Surfliner trains or substitute buses will operate south of L.A.’s Union Station during the weekend of Jan. 24-25 because of scheduled track closures. Travelers must arrange alternate transportation for that period.
