The Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George is getting a fresh coat of paint. On January 14, 2026, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey announced they will star as Dot and painter Georges Seurat in a 2027 West End revival.
Original Cast and Creation
Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s masterwork premiered on Broadway in 1984. Mandy Patinkin earned a Tony nomination for originating the role of Seurat, while Bernadette Peters received the same honor for playing Dot, the artist’s lover and muse.
2017 Broadway Revival
Jake Gyllenhaal stepped into Seurat’s shoes for the 2017 Broadway revival, opposite Annaleigh Ashford as Dot. The production marked Gyllenhaal’s musical-theater debut.

2027 West End Production
Deadline first reported the new revival in December 2025. Grande and Bailey sealed the news with a photo in front of Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Bailey will also reunite with director Marianne Elliott, who previously helmed the gender-swapped Company revival that earned Bailey an Olivier Award in 2019.
