Cat clips that once ruled the early web are back on the big screen. The traveling CatVideoFest has chosen the Natural History Museum as its next Los Angeles venue, pairing a 75-minute reel of viral felines with a museum exhibit all about cats.
At a Glance
- CatVideoFest screens at the Natural History Museum on Jan. 29.
- Attendees can also tour the museum’s “Fierce! The Story of Cats” exhibit, on view through Feb. 18.
- Local rescue groups and cat-centric vendors will set up tables inside the museum.
- A share of Whisker Dreams merchandise sales will fund feline leukemia research.
A Perfect Match for Cat Lovers
The museum’s ongoing exhibit made the location an easy pick, Amanda S. Bennett reported for News Of Los Angeles. “Fierce! The Story of Cats” explores the biology, evolution and cultural impact of house cats and their wild relatives. Festival ticketholders can explore the displays before or after the screening.
Groups Taking Part
Several nonprofits will greet visitors:
- Stray Cat Alliance
- Whisker Watch
- Wallis Annenberg PetSpace
Each group will share adoption information and care tips.
Shopping for a Cause
Whisker Dreams will sell cat-themed stationery, home goods and gifts. A slice of every purchase will go toward research to “help find a cure for Feline Leukemia and diseases like it,” organizers said.
More Museum Cat Fun
The museum’s First Fridays after-hours series returns Feb. 6, blending music, talks and social time under the fossil displays. Past events have sold out quickly; advance tickets are encouraged.
