Coast Guard crews intercepted a cuddy-cabin vessel speeding roughly 19 miles west of Black’s Beach in La Jolla at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday and detained nine people suspected of entering the country unlawfully, authorities reported.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Ward launched a boarding team, took control of the craft without force, and transferred all nine travelers to another U.S. Department of Homeland Security unit at Ballast Point. No injuries occurred. All nine people told officials they are Mexican nationals.
