Shooting at Busy Intersection

Deputies responded to 8:21 p.m. reports of gunfire at Burwood Avenue and Glen Canyon Lane, an intersection flanked by a school and a park. There they found Jeremy “Tank” Rosales suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed the teen to a nearby hospital, where he died.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has not released a motive or suspect description. The intersection reopened after investigators processed the scene, but fear lingers among neighbors.

“The Sweetest Kid With a Big Smile”

On Monday night, more than 100 mourners gathered in Hesperia for a candlelight vigil and balloon release. Rosales’ football teammates wore jerseys; relatives clutched photos.

“Jeremy was the sweetest kid with a big smile,” one woman said through tears. “He was like my nephew; I had him every weekend.”

Gavin Hernandez, a close friend, described the eighth grader as “a big teddy bear, man. Wouldn’t do anything to hurt anybody.”

Coaches recalled a spirited lineman who celebrated every teammate’s touchdown as if it were his own.

Investigation Stalls

The homicide unit continues to canvass door-to-door for surveillance footage and witnesses. Patrol deputies have increased presence near the intersection, yet parents say they still hurry their children past the makeshift memorial.

Key facts deputies seek:

  • Any vehicle or pedestrian seen fleeing after 8:15 p.m. Friday
  • Home-security or dash-cam footage from Burwood Avenue between 8:00-8:30 p.m.
  • Social-media posts referencing an argument earlier that evening
