A 22-year-old man has now been missing for almost a year after he disappeared from a Quebec ski resort. Liam Gabriel Toman was last seen in the early morning hours of Feb. 2, 2025, as he walked back to his room. His family has not given up the search.
The Disappearance
Liam traveled to Tour des Voyageurs II in Mont-Tremblant with two friends for a ski weekend that began Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. After spending Saturday on the slopes, the group shared dinner and drinks, according to accounts given to Canadian outlets.
Later that night Liam left to return to the hotel alone. Security cameras recorded him around 3 a.m. local time on Sunday, Feb. 2. He never arrived at his room. His friends initially assumed he had slept elsewhere and did not report him missing until that Sunday evening, after repeated calls went unanswered.
Search Efforts
Local authorities launched a 12-day operation using ATVs, snowmobiles and helicopters. Despite the extensive sweep, no trace of Liam surfaced until a resort employee found his wallet near a parking lot in March. The discovery prompted another search, yet still no further evidence emerged.
Quebec police continue to treat the case as an open investigation. Officials have not determined whether criminal activity was involved.
Family’s Plea
Kathleen Toman described the approaching anniversary as agonizing. “One year – it’s not something you want to celebrate,” she told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. “You want to say, ‘This has been too long. This is a year. What is, where is he, what’s going on?'”
She urged anyone who visited the resort last winter to search their memories. “The [new] ski season is opening, and this is the time that people are thinking about their past trip last year – a memory could spark something,” she told CTV News.
The family created a website to centralize tips and donations, advertising a $50,000 reward for information leading to Liam.
Living Without Answers
Kathleen said the uncertainty has left the family adrift. “You can’t explain that to anybody, what it’s like living without an answer,” she told the CBC. “You can’t even explain it to yourself. So how can you explain it to anybody else?”
She added: “We are just at a loss. This is what it’s done to our family: we’re at a complete loss.”
