Golden Globes Unveils 500-Foot Outdoor Red Carpet

The 2026 Golden Globes will look different from previous years thanks to construction at the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel. Rather than unfolding inside the hotel’s corridors and covered walkways as it has in years past, the carpet will move completely outdoors and take up nearly 500 feet along Wilshire Boulevard.

Construction Forces Major Redesign

Show runner Glenn Weiss told Los Angeles Magazine that the construction eliminated the usual indoor corridor space. “The biggest challenge is not creative,” he said. “It’s literal. It’s what’s left of this building.”

He continued, “Necessity is the mother of invention. We had a red carpet in a certain place here for years, and then the construction just took it away. So we had to come up with something different.”

New Runway-Style Staircase Debuts

A setup reminiscent of New York City’s annual Met Gala replaces a traditional flat backdrop with a staircase, creating a variety of photo opportunities for talent.

“We wanted it to feel like motion, not posing,” production designer Jitter Garcia tells the outlet. “Almost like a runway.”

Key design details:

  • Measurements calculated for skirts, trains, and heels
  • Stylists invited for a preview
  • First version scrapped after completion

“We were done,” production designer Kyle Absalom told the magazine. “And then we looked at it again and thought it might not read correctly on camera. So we redid the whole thing.”

Garcia added that stylists appreciated the preview. “Now they know exactly what their clients are getting into.”

Menu Stays Largely Unchanged

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa said that things will largely be status quo on the food front.

“We will serve around twelve hundred plates,” he said. “Everything has to be exact.”

The chef explains that there will be only minor updates to the usual menu, with an additional sushi bar going all night off-camera.

“Most of the people here I already know,” Matsuhisa added. “They come to my restaurants. I’m very comfortable.”
