The exchange happened on the ET: Live on the Golden Globes Carpet pre-show when Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier asked Grande to address a “rumor” that she was already attached to the project.
“Oh, really? I mean I’m open, hello,” Grande, 32, responded.
She quickly added, “No, I’m kidding, I’m kidding, I’m kidding. I, you know, I’m a big fan of The Muppets.”
Frazier later spoke with Lawrence, 35, on the carpet and relayed Grande’s reaction. The actress joked about the casting process before confirming her enthusiasm.
“Oh, She didn’t seem excited? That’s your casting. We did not, that was the first time she was hearing,” Lawrence said.
When asked if Grande’s involvement had been a real rumor, Lawrence replied, “I guess it was one of those Twitter rumors. They’re good at those. I mean, if she wants to be in the movie, I would love for her to be in the movie.”
Lawrence then made a direct plea to the cameras: “Please be in Miss Piggy.”

Lawrence first revealed the Miss Piggy film during a November 2025 appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast. She confirmed that both she and Stone, 37, are producing the movie with writer Cole Escola attached.
During that same interview, Lawrence hinted that she and Stone might also appear on screen.
“I think so,” she said. “We have to… It’s f—– up [that we haven’t done a movie together].”
Stone addressed casting speculation in a January 6, 2026 interview with W Magazine, firmly rejecting the idea that she or Lawrence would portray Miss Piggy.
“First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I’ve ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that. Why would I play a literal star? She’s the greatest,” Stone said.
She continued, “No, of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.”
