Hoover Reveals Cancer Battle Update

Colleen Hoover is nearing the end of radiation treatment and has learned her cancer was likely triggered by environmental and lifestyle factors rather than genetics or common causes.

The “It Ends With Us” author shared the update on her Instagram Stories Monday, posting a selfie from what she called her “second to last day of radiation.”

“I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @Texas.Oncology, but they’ve been great,” she wrote. “Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.”

Genetic Testing Results

Hoover previously revealed on January 9 that genetic testing ruled out hereditary causes.

“I got results back today from the geneticist that say my cancer did not come from family genes,” she wrote on Facebook. “It also didn’t come from the two main causes of the cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones.”

According to Hoover, doctors told her the cancer was “more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet and stress.”

Lifestyle Changes

The 46-year-old author expressed frustration about having to adopt healthier habits.

“I’m happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating,” Hoover wrote. “I hate when science is right.”

She added a warning to fans: “If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably real mad about it.”

Missed Events

Hoover first disclosed her health crisis in late October when she announced she would miss the premiere of “Regretting You” due to “unavoidable surgery.”

“I will not be moderating the signing for @lukasgage this month, nor will I be able to attend the premiere or any events for @regrettingyoumovie,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

The author asked fans to share their experiences from the film, which was released later that month.

“I’ll live vicariously through you guys,” Hoover wrote. “So sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together.”

Treatment Progress

While Hoover has not specified the type of cancer she is battling, her recent posts indicate she is completing radiation therapy after undergoing surgery.

The author has maintained her sense of humor throughout treatment, joking about her appearance during radiation sessions while praising her medical team at Texas Oncology.
