Shooting Details

Campbell was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries, News Of Los Angeles confirmed.

The Houston Police Department (HPD) said an argument broke out before the gunfire erupted. According to KPRC 2, the dispute moved to the front door, where Campbell was shot. Neighbors told the outlet they heard approximately 30 gunshots.

Inside the apartment at the time were:

  • A 6-year-old boy

All three children were unharmed. Campbell did not live in the apartment, and the kids were not hers, her sister told ABC13.

Investigation Status

Hours after the shooting, police detained a woman, who was later released. Around 2 a.m. the next day, officers detained a man. HPD has not publicly identified any suspects.

News Of Los Angeles reached out to HPD on Sunday, January 18, but did not receive an immediate response.

Family Speaks Out

Kanneshia Penrice, Campbell’s sister, told ABC13 she spoke with her sibling one week before the shooting.

“Never knew it was going to be the last time I would just talk to my sister,” Penrice said. “She was like, ‘I’m ready to do what I have to do. I’m ready to move, get on moving with my life and everything.'”
