Robert Irwin is wasting no time returning to television after hoisting the Mirrorball Trophy. The 22-year-old conservationist confirmed he is heading back to South Africa to film the upcoming season of Australia’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, which premieres January 18, 2025 on Network 10.
Return to the Jungle
Irwin officially teased the new season on Instagram Tuesday, Jan. 11, posting a behind-the-scenes video from set.
“Welcome back to South Africa,” he told viewers. “We have a brilliant new season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here coming to you, Australia, Jan. 18. This season, we are changing things, we’re upping the ante.”
The announcement comes barely seven weeks after Irwin and pro partner Witney Carson claimed the Dancing with the Stars season 34 title. Their victory aired exactly a decade after Irwin’s sister, Bindi, won season 21 with Derek Hough.
Promising the ‘Most Intense’ Season Yet
Irwin promised the 2025 run will push celebrity contestants further than ever.
Key changes teased:
- Higher stakes
- More emotional moments
- Tougher challenges
- Surprising twists
“This season is one to watch because it’s going to be the most intense season we’ve ever had, the most challenging, the most emotional,” Irwin said. “And our celebrities, holy moly, they’re gonna get a run for their money.”
Co-host Julia Morris, 57, also shared a clip in which Irwin joked about his packed schedule since last season, listing his DWTS appearance and a Bonds underwear campaign among his recent projects.
Support from the Dance Floor
Witney Carson quickly cheered on her former partner under his Instagram teaser.
“Oh I can’t wait,” the 32-year-old pro commented, punctuating the message with a red-heart emoji.
The pair’s November victory gave the Australia Zoo ambassador a national platform to promote wildlife conservation, echoing the message Bindi spread after her 2015 win.
Full Circle at Australia Zoo
Irwin brought his Mirrorball Trophy home in early January, introducing it to residents of the family-run Australia Zoo on Jan. 8.
In a video post captioned “The mirrorball has made it home,” Irwin showed off the prize to:
- A koala
- A rainbow lorikeet
- A python
The moment continued a family tradition. Irwin told News Of Losangeles last year that watching Bindi win was special partly because she used the spotlight to highlight the zoo and Wildlife Warriors, the Irwins’ conservation charity.
“It’s about making the world a better place,” he recalled. “And when I watched her lift that Mirrorball, I saw her lifting that message.”
Expanding His Résumé
Beyond reality TV, Irwin has added several new credits in recent months:

- Movie debut in Zootopia 2, which premiered Nov. 13, 2025 in Los Angeles
- Charity work at the Crocodile Hunter Lodge, a 2022 addition to Australia Zoo
- Brand partnerships, including the Bonds campaign
The flurry of projects suggests Irwin is capitalizing on momentum from his televised dance triumph while continuing his wildlife advocacy.
What Viewers Can Expect
Network 10 will launch the new I’m a Celebrity episodes on Sunday, Jan. 18. Irwin and Morris will again preside over challenges that test celebrity contestants’ endurance, fear factor and teamwork in the South African jungle.
No cast list has been revealed, but Irwin’s hype implies familiar faces are in for “the most challenging” batch of trials the franchise has produced. Filming is underway, giving the conservationist a quick pivot from ballroom lights to campfire nights.
