Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are officially reuniting for a feature film that blends their signature comedy with classic monster-movie scares. The project, announced during the January 20 episode of Prime Video’s Good Sports, pairs the 47-year-old stars in Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein, set to begin production this summer.

The Reunion

During Good Sports, Mitchell surprised the audience by joining Thompson on set. The two revealed they will headline and produce the modern horror comedy under the banners of Artists for Artists and Range Media Partners.

Thompson framed the collaboration as a natural evolution:

“Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected. We’re excited to bring a fresh take on a classic monster story and have some fun doing it.”

Mitchell echoed the sentiment:

“Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new. It’s funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride.”

Plot and Inspiration

The film draws direct inspiration from the Abbott and Costello monster movies of the 1940s and 1950s. The story follows two delivery drivers whose routine drop-off spirals into chaos when they reach a creepy castle and accidentally awaken Frankenstein’s monster, turning an ordinary shift into a fight for survival.

John Ryan Jr., partner at Artists for Artists, summed up the tone:

“First it was Abbott and Costello, then Pryor and Wilder. Kenan and Kel. Think Shaun of the Dead meets Scooby-Doo.”

Decades of Collaboration

The announcement marks the latest chapter in a partnership spanning three decades. Thompson and Mitchell first shared the screen on Nickelodeon’s All That, which led to their spin-off Kenan & Kel, the 1997 film Good Burger, and the 2023 sequel Good Burger 2.

In a 2023 interview with News Of Los Angeles, the pair discussed rebuilding their friendship after growing distant in adulthood. Thompson credited “time” with allowing them to reconnect, admitting it had been “ridiculously too long.”

Mitchell likened the separation to childhood friends heading to different colleges before a pivotal phone call reset their course:

“I think we had a conversation on the phone one time. I remember that conversation. We talked for at least about an hour or two and just was like, ‘Yeah, man.’ We’re talking about everything. And that bond was there, which I think is awesome. It’s cool to see the dynamic of us as adults. Kenan and Kel as adults.”

Thompson now describes their bond as “more solid than it ever was,” adding:

“We’ve already experienced the mysteries of, well, what if I went off and you went off and you did this? We’ve seen what that is. Now, there’s no fear of it or there’s no feeling of we’re missing out on any kind of thing or whatever. It’s such a pleasure and that guaranteed ‘somebody’s got your back’ feeling at any given moment in the room. Everything is just easy.”
