Robert Pattinson has a hidden role in Josh Safdie’s latest film.
While speaking at London’s BFI Southbank, Safdie revealed that Pattinson, 39, makes a secret, voice-only cameo in Marty Supreme, the award-winning A24 ping-pong drama starring Timothée Chalamet.
“No one knows this, but that voice, the commentator, the umpire, is Pattinson,” Safdie, 41, said, according to Complex.
The Easter Egg No One Caught

Safdie, who worked with Pattinson in the 2017 thriller Good Time, called the moment a subtle “Easter egg” embedded in the hit movie.
The director explained that he turned to Pattinson because he wanted the British Open sequence to feel authentic but his pool of available collaborators was limited. “He came and watched some stuff and I was like, ‘I don’t know any British people,’ ” Safdie recalled. “So he’s the umpire.”
Pattinson’s voice pops up near the beginning of the movie. He calls the action during a pivotal British Open match that introduces Chalamet’s ping-pong prodigy before his showdown with Hungarian rival Béla Kletzki (played by Géza Röhrig).
Awards Momentum Builds
Marty Supreme is Safdie’s first solo feature since he and brother Benny split to pursue individual projects.
The film – about an American table tennis phenom’s rise through the international circuit – also stars:
- Odessa A’zion
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Fran Drescher
- Kevin O’Leary
- Sandra Bernhard
- Tyler, the Creator
Chalamet’s performance has gotten the attention of awards season. He’s already earned the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award, among others. A’zion was notably also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at The Actor Awards.
In his speech at the Globes on Sunday, Jan. 11, Chalamet, 30, shouted out those who have supported him in his career, including girlfriend Kylie Jenner.
“My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up,” Chalamet said. “Always be grateful for what you have. It’s allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past empty-handed, my head held high, grateful just to be here. I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter. For my parents, for my partner, I love you. Thank you so much.”
