California produces several million pounds of blueberries annually, exporting them globally, not to forget distributing across the state!
Not only are blueberries a delight to savor fresh, but they also serve as a versatile ingredient in a multitude of culinary applications. They are a staple in well-loved blueberry muffins, pies, and pancakes, but their use extends beyond baked goods. They make a refreshing addition to salads, are a novel ingredient in cocktails, and can even be roasted alongside meats. Truly, these tiny berries hold a world of possibilities!
Preparation is Key
A brief car journey from Los Angeles will take you to many blueberry picking farms. However, if you’re considering a visit, it’s crucial to verify each farm’s availability in advance. The farm’s daily yield requires meticulous management, sometimes leading to the suspension of picking activities the following day.
Stay in the loop by following the farms on social media, or simply give them a call. They’ll keep you posted on their picking schedule and any specific regulations they have in place.
Each farm has its unique features and rules. Some may discourage bringing pets, while others may request that you bring your own collecting containers. Certain farms may offer picnic areas, and some may organize harvest festivals. Regardless of where you end up, we hope your visit is delightful!

- Blueberry season typically kicks off in May and often extends into August.
- Cherries are usually ripe for picking in May and June.
- Strawberries are cultivated throughout the year, though many believe their prime season spans from April to July.
- Citrus fruits, including lemons and tangerines, usually peak from February to October.
- Apple picking season typically commences in late September and lasts until November.
