Amy Poehler claimed the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Podcast on January 11, 2026, for her Spotify show Good Hang with Amy Poehler.

At a Glance
- Poehler won the debut podcast category at the 83rd Golden Globes.
- She beat Armchair Expert, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, SmartLess, and Up First.
- The comedian thanked her team and boyfriend Joel Lovell on stage.
- Why it matters: The win signals mainstream Hollywood’s formal embrace of podcasting as a prestige medium.
The ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, introduced the award with a spoof of Nicole Kidman’s AMC ad by host Nikki Glaser before Snoop Dogg presented the trophy.
“This is exactly how I pictured it: Snoop giving me the award,” Poehler joked, later adding, “I don’t know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense.”
The Competition
Poehler’s victory came over a stacked field:
- Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard (2018) – interviews exploring “human truths.”
- Call Her Daddy (2018) – Alex Cooper’s candid conversations, previously backed by a $60 million Spotify deal.
- The Mel Robbins Podcast (2022) – self-help tools and personal stories.
- SmartLess (2020) – Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes surprise one another with guests.
- NPR’s Up First (2017) – ten-minute morning news roundup.
Poehler remains friendly with ex-husband Arnett and appeared on SmartLess last year. Arnett teased on PEOPLE 10 earlier this week that co-host Hayes had already “written Amy’s acceptance speech.”
On-Stage Shout-Outs
In her speech, Poehler playfully jabbed NPR-“a bunch of celebs phoning it in”-before praising her fellow nominees and describing Good Hang as “an attempt to make a rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter.”
She ended by telling her parents, “you can watch the Patriots now.”
Industry Reaction
Roman Wasenmüller, Spotify VP and Global Head of Podcasts, called the win “a powerful validation of what we’ve long believed-that podcasts are one of the most impactful and culturally relevant forms of storytelling today.”
He added, “To see a podcast honored on this global stage is not only a win for Good Hang, but a defining moment for podcasting and Spotify.”
About the Show
Good Hang with Amy Poehler launched in March 2025. Each episode welcomes “celebrities and fun people” to discuss careers, mutual friends, shared enthusiasms, and “what’s been making them laugh,” according to its official description.
The show is produced in partnership with The Ringer and streams exclusively on Spotify.
Golden Globes History
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the new category in October, selecting 25 eligible shows through data partner Luminate. President Helen Hoehne called the list “a reflection of the incredible depth, diversity and creativity thriving in the podcasting world today” and noted the Globes are “the first major entertainment award to recognize this medium.”
Poehler previously won a Golden Globe in 2014 for Best Actress in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy for Parks and Recreation.
Other Nominee Highlights
- Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper has interviewed Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, and John Mayer.
- Armchair Expert‘s Dec. 15 episode celebrated the nomination as the show’s first-ever Globe recognition.
- The Mel Robbins Podcast noted its journey “a long way” since 2022.
- NPR’s Up First is hosted by Leila Fadel, Steve Inskeep, and others, delivering daily news in ten minutes.
