A Texas woman has been charged with aggravated assault after police say she launched a 25-pound metal plate at a romantic rival inside a crowded gym.

The Attack

The confrontation erupted January 6 inside the 24 Hour Fitness on Spring Stuebner Road in Spring, Texas, according to a press release from the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office.

Deputies say Aralyn Martinez, 24, recognized the other woman “as someone her partner was involved with” and immediately became aggressive.

A personal-bond order reviewed by News Of Los Angeles states that Martinez warned, “bitch, I’m going to drop this plate on you,” then lifted the 25-pound weight overhead and hurled it toward the woman’s head.

Nearby gym-goers intervened, preventing further violence, Precinct 4 Capt. Juan Flores told KHOU 11. The victim dodged the projectile and escaped injury.

Charges and Court Orders

Martinez fled the gym but was arrested the next day and booked into the Harris County Jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Online records reviewed by News Of Los Angeles show she secured release on a $1,000 bond. An amended pretrial-supervision order reveals that “alcohol was a factor in the offense.”

Court-imposed conditions now bar Martinez from:

  • Going within 200 feet of the alleged victim
  • Entering the 24 Hour Fitness where the attack occurred
  • Consuming alcohol or drugs without submitting to random testing

Martinez’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, January 22. News Of Los Angeles has reached out to her court-appointed attorney for comment.
