Teyana Taylor added another trophy to her shelf on January 11, 2026, and then asked her culinary professor for more time to turn in her homework. The singer-dancer-actress, 35, won Best Supporting Actress in Any Motion Picture at the Beverly Hilton ceremony for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.
Red-Carpet Confession
Speaking to reporters before the telecast, Taylor admitted she was nervous about an upcoming culinary-school deadline. “I do be scared when I be like ‘Oh my God, oh my God. My deadline is on Tuesday. I gotta have my meal in by Tuesday,'” she said. The entertainer revealed she had already spoken with her chef-instructor: “He’s giving me an extension so I can turn my assignment in on Thursday.”
Taylor emphasized that her experience at Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts has been overwhelmingly positive. “Shout-out Escoffier,” she added. “They’ve been very, very supportive of me.”
Balancing Act
The multihyphenate explained that she usually submits coursework early, but awards-season obligations complicated this particular week. “I was like, ‘Chef, this is when the double life is kicking in,'” she recalled. “Because I’m a straight-A student and I want to keep it that way. I don’t want to make any excuses. I don’t want no breaks.”
Taylor rejected the idea of taking a semester off, instead requesting only “a couple extra days” to finish the assignment.
Acceptance Speech
Clutching her Golden Globe, Taylor thanked her parents, her inner circle, and director Paul Thomas Anderson. “To Paul ‘Let ‘Em Cook’ Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance,” she said. “My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.”

She closed by addressing “my Brown sisters and little Brown girls watching tonight.”
“Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine,” she declared. “We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
Culinary Journey
Taylor first revealed her enrollment at Escoffier in June 2025 via social media. In a video featuring her nine-year-old daughter Junie, the entertainer danced in chef’s whites to GloRilla’s “Let Her Cook.”
“Cooking and baking have always been more than just hobbies for me; they’ve been my passion, my peace, my therapy,” she wrote. “Through every twist and turn in my life and career, the kitchen has been a safe space. No matter how hectic life gets, I find comfort in the rhythm of it all – the chopping, the stirring, the creating. Now, I get to take this love even deeper.”
Family Notes
Taylor shares daughters Junie, 9, and Rue, 5, with ex-husband Iman Shumpert.
